Overview
Hermione uses the spell during the first novel when the friends are trying to leave their common room. Its effect is bodily restraint, not the same condition caused by the basilisk in the second novel. Keeping those mechanisms separate prevents a shared English word from becoming a mistaken rule of magic.

This entry distinguishes what the story establishes from what a character believes. For context, read the named chapters rather than relying on an isolated statement. A film scene, game mechanic or fan theory is not evidence that the same event occurs in the novels.
