Overview
Fred and George pass the map to Harry when he cannot visit Hogsmeade by the ordinary route. Its depiction of the castle is a magical object within the story, rather than an authoritative floor plan for every adaptation. Its makers’ identities are part of the third novel’s mystery.

This entry distinguishes what the story establishes from what a character believes. For context, read the named chapters rather than relying on an isolated statement. A film scene, game mechanic or fan theory is not evidence that the same event occurs in the novels.
