Overview
McGonagall is a senior Hogwarts professor and head of Gryffindor during Harry’s school years. She expects discipline but recognises ability when she sees it. Her dry manner, firm standards and occasional exceptions to the rules make her an important counterpoint to both Dumbledore’s indirect guidance and the students’ impulsive decisions.

This entry distinguishes what the story establishes from what a character believes. For context, read the named chapters rather than relying on an isolated statement. A film scene, game mechanic or fan theory is not evidence that the same event occurs in the novels.
