Overview
Sirius is introduced through frightening reports about his escape from Azkaban. The third novel gradually reveals why those reports provide an incomplete account. His history is tightly connected to James Potter, Remus Lupin and Peter Pettigrew, so later information changes the meaning of several events described earlier in the series.

This entry distinguishes what the story establishes from what a character believes. For context, read the named chapters rather than relying on an isolated statement. A film scene, game mechanic or fan theory is not evidence that the same event occurs in the novels.
